Collection: Mapula Embroidery Trust

MAPULA (Mother of Rain) EMBROIDERIES is a South African community art project that began in 1991. The Mapula Group consists of 150 women who design and produce handmade embroidered products. Each product is created by individual women who decide on the colours and stitch to create bright, unique Mapula items.

Embroiderers work at home and form base at the DWT Nthathe Adult Education Centre with the sisters of mercy in the Winterveld 40km northwest of Pretoria. The income received by the embroiderers empower the women, help them feed and educate their children and improve their lives.

As these are handmade products, please allow for variations in design and slight variations in size. All products are made with South African materials, and have a label with washing instructions. You can find more information on www.mapulaembroideries.co.za
