Collection: Nala Ceramics
The gift of working with clay was passed down to Ncamisile through her lineage. The Nala family has been telling stories through ceramics for more than 40 years. Ncamisile’s pottery journey began when she was staying with her grandmother, the world-renowned Nesta Nala. Through Nesta’s prolific output, Ncamisile was exposed to the wonders of clay, every day. In 1998, five year-old Ncamisile moved to Troyeville, Johannesburg to stay with her mother, Jabulile Nala. Jabulile’s pottery practice allowed Ncamisile to immerse herself deeper into the world of clay. Helping her mother around the studio led Ncamisile to start making her own pots the same year she moved in with Jabulile. Having witnessed her child’s natural talent and enthusiasm towards pottery, Jabulile enrolled Ncamisile at the Kim Sacks Gallery and Ceramics Craft School – from 1998 to 2002 – where she learnt how to work with different kinds of clay. Ncamisile launched her career as a ceramic artist at the 2023 International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe, USA.
