About

The province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa is known for its rich crafting heritage and also as an incubator of contemporary creative talent.

The KZNSA online shop is a curated selection of collectable art and craft from KZN. Our online shop is a living database of important artists and master crafters from the province.

Traditional skills in KZN include beading, basket weaving in grass, ilala palm and wire, ceramics, wood carving and embroidery. Over the years the province has produced many master crafts people and important contemporary visual artists and the KwaZulu-Natal Society of Arts has a mandate to identity and nurture this talent.

KZNSA Gallery is a registered non profit organisation and was founded in 1902 to represent local artists by supporting their careers and exhibiting their work. In the late 1980’s the gallery established a shop to showcase the best of KZN craft. It continues to do all this today. Visit the gallery to find our more about our exhibitions and the Young Artists’ Project.

The bricks and mortar KZNSA shop in Durban has long been a destination for unique handmade items. The shop and gallery currently represent the work of over 300 local artists, crafters, designers and small creative businesses.

Each year the shop takes over the gallery for an eight week festive season market, BUZZART. An impact assesment calculated that in the 2017/2018 financial year the KZNSA shop and BUZZART contributed R1.4 million to KZNSA shop suppliers.

Thanks for your support of our endeavours to sustain a sophisticated craft and art industry, and a thriving creative economy in KZN.
