Mfundo Malimela is a young artist who was born in Umlazi but spent most of his childhood and adolescent years in Amanzimtoti.

His work focuses on a theme he is exploring, rather than particular mediums. Currently working out of Durban, Mfundo began his interest in art at a very young age. His late brother was an aspiring artist and has influenced his work. 

Malimela is currently studying art and design at Thekwini College, and being mentored by contemporary artist, Sphephelo Mnguni.

As a survivor of sexual assault, Mfundo’s work is heavily focused on mental health and the effects of sexual assault on his world view, as well as attitudes towards the world, its people and what it means to be a sexually assaulted human.
